Stanbridge Hall

Weedon Architects were appointed by Barteak Ltd in association with Housing 21 to provide a 70 unit Extra Care Home in Banbury. The site was occupied by the Locally Listed Stanbridge Hall, constructed in 1928 to house Banbury School. Our proposal maintained the existing front block of accommodation and created 2 new courtyards - one private, one public enveloped by a new purpose built development. A Partnership with Oxfordshire City Council introduced a Resource Day Centre use into the scheme providing facilities for the aged local population. The combined facility has a central ‘activity’ street as its hub providing dining, retail, hair, healthcare and lounge facilities for both residents and visitors. The resultant layout provides a secure and interactive community development maintaining the primary elements of the existing building and generating sympathetic and contemporary additions .
