Weedon Architects were appointed to carry out a technical audit for the construction of several facilities in Sandwell, West Midlands.
The project required existing buildings be demolished, the provision of new replacement welfare facilities and a consolidation of services in modern robust accommodation that enhanced the environment of the staff and also achieved BREEAM “very good” status.
The Eagle Lane site in Tipton provides a new £10m, 4460msq Waste Transfer Centre with Office / staff facilities, weighbridge and annex parking on a 23,500msq site. The facility handles more than 1700 tonnes of waste and recycling each week and has an annual capacity of 200,000 tonnes. The single span steel portal frame building is subdivided into 4 bays for waste separation with flexible bay (push wall) solutions as well as sunken and raised areas of loading / unloading.
The Shidas Lane Household Recycling Centre in Oldbury required a revised layout of the transport flow for Cars and Waste vehicles plus a new 688msq Office and Welfare building including meeting rooms, 30 seat canteen and associated showers/lockers. All undertaken whilst keeping the site “live”.
